AUSTRALIA Day is like a road trip down memory lane for Beaumaris motorist Laurette Jardel. Ms Jardel is one of hundreds taking part in the Australia Day Picnic and Federation Vehicle Display on Saturday. She said driving into the Kings Domain Gardens in her 1949 Singer 4A would be a pleasure and a chance to relive history.

"It is a fantastic event, something I am looking forward to," Ms Jardel said.

Meanwhile, Bayside Council is running its own Australia Day event. New citizens to the municipality will be sworn in at Brighton Town Hall, corner of Wilson and Carpenter streets, Brighton, on Saturday from 9.30am.
